This study examines the impact of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) adoption on payment preferences and behaviors in Coimbatore, India. Introduced by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), UPI has transformed digital transactions by enabling real-time inter-bank transfers via mobile platforms. The research assesses how UPI usage affects traditional payment methods, especially ATM withdrawals and cash transactions. It also explores factors influencing UPI adoption, such as user awareness, satisfaction, and preference for digital payments. The findings reveal a notable decline in ATM withdrawal frequency post-UPI adoption, signaling a shift toward cashless transactions. Differences in UPI knowledge and satisfaction levels were observed across age and income groups. Moreover, profession significantly influenced preference for UPI over cash. These insights offer valuable implications for financial institutions, policymakers, and stakeholders aiming to enhance digital payment systems and promote financial inclusion in India are evolving fintech landscape. The study emphasizes UPI’s growing role in reshaping consumer payment behavior.
