Title

REMOVAL OF BASIC FUCHSIN DYE FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTION BY USING ACTIVATED CARBON FROM JACKFRUIT WASTE

Abstract

Activated carbon was synthesized from Jackfruit waste and utilized for the removal of basic dyes, such as Basic Fuchsin (BF), from aqueous solutions. The resulting carbon was designated as JCHNO3. Batch adsorption experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of variables including solution pH, initial dye concentration, particle size, adsorbent dose, and contact time on the adsorption process. The experimental results showed that solution pH significantly impacted the sorption efficiency. The JCHNO3 carbon was characterized using BET, SEM, and FTIR techniques. To describe the adsorption equilibrium, Freundlich, Langmuir, Temkin, and Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) Isotherms were applied. The kinetics of adsorption were analyzed using pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, intraparticle diffusion, pore distribution, and Elovich models. The BET surface area of the prepared JCHNO3 carbon was found to be 987 m²/g.
