This paper presents the design and implementation of an Automatic Number Plate Detection and Recognition System using image processing and IoT technologies. The system is developed to enhance security and automate vehicle access control in environments such as residential complexes, parking lots, and industrial gates. A USB web camera captures the vehicle's number plate image, which is then processed using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to extract alphanumeric characters. These characters are compared against a predefined local database to verify authorization. If a match is found, a DC motor-driven gate opens, and a green LED is activated. In case of a mismatch, a red LED, buzzer, and automated email alert notify the concerned authority. An ultrasonic sensor detects the vehicle's presence and triggers the camera. The system also features an LCD display for real-time feedback. This low-cost, scalable solution provides a reliable and efficient approach to automated vehicle identification and access management.
