Title

Characteristics And Impacts of Invasive Plant Aliens In Khandesh Region (Maharashtra, India): Amaranthaceae

Abstract

Invasive alien floral elements are now conceived to be a serious threat to our environment, biodiversity and agricultural economy. Relevant and realistic control system for such noxious plant species is a need of hour. Researches in this direction are being extended all over especially when 'Convention For Biological Diversity-1992' declared bioinvasion as the second worst threat after habitat destruction. Nay, the biologist also consider it as 'Biological Pollution'. In such circumstances, it has become necessary to pay serious attention to the ever-expanding invasive alien flora worldwide. The present authors, at this backdrop, investigated invasive plant aliens belonging to the family Amaranthaceae in Khandesh region (Maharashtra: India). Total 13 invasive alien species belonging to 07 genera are unlocked. Certain characteristics of these taxa are studied which render such taxa very aggressive expanding and invasive. Such an investigation is hoped as an aid to check these invasive species in future for the welfare of mankind.
