A Quantitative pre-experimental research approach was used for the study. The study was theoretically supported by Betty Neuman's system model. 60 critical care nurses were selected using purposive sampling. The tools used for data collection were Socio- personal data, Nursing Stress Scale to assess the stress among critical care nurses and State Trait Anxiety Inventory to assess the anxiety among critical care nurses. Participants were instructed to practice positive thinking exercise and mindful breathing, each for 10 minutes daily for 28 days. First post test was conducted on 14 th day after the pre-test and the second post test was conducted on 28 th day after the pre-test. Results of the study revealed that majority (51.7%) of critical care nurses had mild level of stress, 31.7% had moderate level of stress, and 16.6% had severe level of stress. The study also showed that majority (68.4%) of critical care nurses had moderate level of anxiety,28.3% had severe level of anxiety and only 3.3% had mild level of anxiety. The study found out that self-empowerment programme was effective in reducing stress and anxiety among critical care nurses at different levels of assessment. The study findings inferred that there is weak positive correlation between stress and anxiety among critical care nurses. The study findings revealed that there is no significant association between stress among critical care nurses and selected variables except type of allocation. The study findings also showed that there is no significant association between anxiety among critical care nurses and selected variables except place of stay.
