Vata is the most important Dosha among Tridoshas. Each and every action in the human body is carried out with the help of Vata. The functions of other Doshas, Dhatus and Malas are depending on the Vata. Vata Dosha helps to maintain the equilibrium state of other Doshas, Dhatus and Malas. During the aggravated state, Vatadosha transports all other Doshas, Dhatus and Malas to the various locations where they produce the disease. Vata Dosha helps to maintain the state of homeostasis by excreting Malas. Vata Dosha plays an important role in regulation of the so many physiological functions in our body. Vata Dosha regulates the state of mind and all activities along with the proper functioning of various sence organs. Ayurvedic contexts narrated that Pitta, Kapha, all Dhatus and Malas are Pangu and moves with the help of the Vata. They can’t move themselves, so the Vata is having prime position. It is the controller of the body and mind also. It is possible due to its Gunas. Charakacharya told Vayu as Ayu and Bala. In this essay an effort is done to correlate the functions of Panchavata i.e. Prana, Udana, Vyana, Samana, and Apanavayu with the modern aspects of physiology.
