Title

Seed morphological, anatomical and preliminary phytochemical analysis of Abutilon indicum L. Sweet. (Atibala) seeds of family Malvaceae.

Authors

Abstract

The traditional herbal remedies often include religious belief and rituals that represents an important link between past and present culture. In ayurveda the plant Abutilon indicum L. Sweet.is very important. Medicinally all the parts use for preparations of various medicines. The Seeds of Abutilon indicum L. Sweet are hairy, velvety structure. It is minute, heart shape. We studied seed morphology, seed anatomy and preliminary phytochemical analysis of Abutilon indicum L.Sweet. seeds. In seed morphology we observed seedcoat characters, outer surface of seed hairy, velvety, soft. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) shows micromorphological characters of seed surface in which highly magnified surface variations seen. The surface study is essential for observing the different structural, ornamentations of seeds.Tuft of hairy depositions with heartshaped seed. In seed anatomy outer epidermis, palisade, parenchyma, endosperm present. In preliminary phytochemical analysis of Abutilon indicum L. Sweet seeds show various chemical constituents like alkaloids, glycosides, terpenoids, phenols, tannins, steroids, glycosides, proteins, amino acids, carbohydrates present in it. Medicinally seeds are very important. It is used for preparation of traditional medicine. All the above observations useful for seed identification and solving many taxonomic problems also.
