Title

A Survey Paper on AI Powered Tool for the Visually Impaired

Abstract

Navigating the world independently continues to be a significant challenge for individuals with visual impairments, often limiting their mobility and confidence. Advances in artificial intelligence (AI), computer vision, and deep learning are now paving the way for smarter assistive technologies that can interpret the surrounding environment and convey meaningful information through sound. This review explores the latest developments in AI-based tools that support visually impaired users, focusing on features like object detection, obstacle avoidance, text reading, and voice feedback. Prominent models such as YOLO, SSD, and MobileNet-SSD are used to detect objects in real time, while OCR technologies like Tesseract allow systems to recognize and read printed text aloud. These capabilities are often integrated into portable, affordable hardware such as Raspberry Pi and paired with speech output systems like pyttsx3 and eSpeak. By examining a range of current solutions and research studies, this paper reflects on how these technologies perform in practical scenarios. This review presents a comparative analysis of existing methodologies and highlighting performance in AI-driven assistive technologies for the visually impaired.
