Terrorism is conceptualized and executed by the Pakistani Military establishment in alliance with its religious allies. This Mullah-Military alliance has associated national identity with invaders of the Indian subcontinent. The Afghan-Soviet war during the Cold War concentrated global jihadi warriors in Pakistan. As the Soviets withdrew their forces, the unemployed jihadi terrorists entered Kashmir. Armed with fabricated stories about the ‘conquest of India’ prophesied by Muhammad, the jihadis created havoc not only in India’s northwest but in Pakistan as well. Military establishment’s decision to consider certain terrorist groups as assets and others dangerous to national security miscalculated the ability of terrorists to switch group affiliation guided by self-interest. While Islamabad has made billions during the Cold War Afghan-Soviet conflict and the post-Cold War Afghan-US wars, the region of South Asia has witnessed a carnival of terrorism and the growth in smuggling of drugs and weapons.
