These techniques for resisting earthquakes and the seismic isolation of buildings, which can make structures resilient to seismic activity, have gained popularity over the last thirty years in countries such as the US and Japan. Seismic isolation is a technique for safeguarding a structure from significant tremors by placing isolators and energy-dissipating devices beneath the superstructure. Seismic isolation offers not only structural integrity but also the safety and protection of individuals and assets within the building. Seismic isolation is additionally employed for retrofitting historic buildings. The impacts of seismic isolation were validated through shaking table experiments, structural health assessments, and earthquake response evaluations. Seismic isolation systems provide an effective approach to standard seismic design to enhance the seismic resilience of structures.
