Title

Double-Tiered Switched Capacitor-Based Active Cell Balancing of Lithium-ion Cells

Abstract

The double-tiered switched-capacitor (DTSC) method is innovative in balancing lithium-ion cells within battery packs. This technique offers several advantages, including enhanced balancing efficiency, rapid equalization, and minimal energy loss. By utilizing two levels of switched capacitors, the method ensures precise and effective charge redistribution among the cells. Properly controlling the capacitor switching process helps to minimize voltage variations between cells. This strategy is especially beneficial for high-voltage battery systems, as it effectively manages significant voltage imbalances. Experimental results confirm that this technique substantially improves battery performance and longevity.
