Title

EV CHARGING STATION LOCATOR - CHARGE SPOTTER

Abstract

The rise in electric vehicle (EV) usage has made providing drivers with quick and easy access to charging stations more important than ever. Often, users depend on third-party APIs to locate these stations, but such services can be limiting in terms of data availability, reliability, and control. To address this gap, we introduce a custom-built EV charging station locator website that functions independently of external APIs. It is designed with simplicity and usability, allowing users to search for nearby stations, book them in advance, view past bookings, and manage personal profiles—all through a clean and intuitive interface. The system calculates the distance between a user’s location and nearby stations using the Haversine formula. This formula offers a reliable way to measure real-world distances based on geographic coordinates, helping EV users choose the closest station and reduce unnecessary travel. The backend infrastructure is powered by MySQL, which handles essential data such as user records, charging station details, booking information, and usage history. This ensures a consistent, responsive, and secure user experience. This paper outlines the platform's development and design, with a focus on enhancing accessibility and promoting the broader use of electric vehicles. It also explores potential improvements to make the system even more scalable and efficient as demand continues to grow.
