This paper examines the concept of self-actualization as vividly depicted through the characters in the novel, particularly the central figure of Krishna, who undergoes a profound and multifaceted journey from a state of existential despair to a profound spiritual awakening. Drawing on the seminal insights of Abraham Maslow's theory of self-actualization, this study delves deeply into how Krishna's poignant experiences, complex relationships, and introspective reflections ultimately lead him to achieve a richer and more nuanced understanding of himself and his overarching purpose in life. Through a meticulously detailed close reading of the text, this research ultimately highlights Narayan's masterful portrayal of self-actualization as a profoundly resonant process of reconciling personal loss, embracing newfound spiritual insights, and discovering profound meaning within the tapestry of everyday life.
