Title

Research on Innovative Base Isolation Systems for Earthquake-Resistant Design

Abstract

These methods for earthquake resistance and the seismic isolation of buildings, which can enhance the durability of structures against seismic events, have become increasingly acknowledged over the past thirty years in nations like the US and Japan. Seismic isolation serves as a method for protecting a structure from severe shakes by positioning isolators and energy-dissipating devices underneath the superstructure. Seismic isolation not only ensures structural strength but also guarantees the safety and security of people and assets inside the building. Additionally, seismic isolation is used for upgrading historic buildings. The effects of seismic isolation have been confirmed through experiments on shaking tables, assessments of structural health, and evaluations of earthquake responses. Seismic isolation systems present a valuable method for conventional seismic design to improve the seismic resilience of buildings.
