From January 2023 to December 2023, we studied the diet and feeding patterns of Rastrelliger kanagurta along the Malvan and Vengurla coasts in Sindhudurg, Maharashtra. Specimens ranged in total length from 12 cm to 30 cm, with the 16-22 cm size group being the most prevalent. The primary food sources were identified as 44.11% zooplankton, 39.68% phytoplankton, 2.99% algae, 9.48% miscellaneous matter, and 3.71% semi-digested matter. Feeding activity was notably higher in mature specimens compared to those in ripe stages. Peak feeding intensity occurred in October, followed by November, while feeding was reduced from April to July. The gastro-somatic index (GaSI) was highest in autumn and lowest in winter, particularly around the spawning season.
