Title

3D-Printed Waist Belt for Sciatica Pain Relief with Intelligent Posture Monitoring and Dynamic Heat Therapy

Abstract

Sciatica, a prevalent cause of global disability, is frequently attributed to sedentary lifestyles, poor posture, and occupational strain. Conventional lumbar belts offer passive support but lack real-time monitoring, adaptive pressure adjustment, and targeted therapeutic intervention. This study introduces an innovative, multifunctional lumbar support system integrating intelligent monitoring, biomechanical reinforcement, and heat therapy for enhanced pain management. The belt employs a multi-layered design optimized for comfort, durability, and spinal stabilization. The innermost layer utilizes Tencel (Lyocell) for moisture-wicking biocompatibility, followed by a breathable silicone fabric layer for flexibility. A 3D-printed TPU/TPE honeycomb matrix embedded with PEEK rods forms the middle layer, providing dynamic spinal support while maintaining lightweight properties. An integrated MPU6050 detects posture, triggering real-time vibration alerts to prevent excessive lumbar strain. A programmable heat therapy system delivers controlled thermal stimulation to alleviate sciatic nerve pain by improving circulation and muscle relaxation. The outermost micro power mesh layer ensures long-term breathability and structural integrity. By combining smart sensors, adaptive biomechanics, and therapeutic heat, this wearable system represents a significant advancement over static lumbar belts. Its 3D-printed architecture dynamically conforms to user movement, offering a non-invasive, personalized solution for sciatica management. This technology holds promise for improving mobility, reducing disability, and enhancing the quality of life in affected individuals.
