Title

CHALLENGES FACED BY TRIBAL STUDENTS WHO JOIN FIRST STANDARD WITHOUT PREPARING EDUCATION AND SOLUTIONS

Authors

Abstract

Tribal students who join the first standard without prior exposure to formal education face numerous challenges that hinder their academic progress. These challenges include language barriers, as many tribal children speak dialects different from the medium of instruction; cultural dissonance between home and school environments; lack of early childhood education; and limited parental support due to low literacy levels. Additionally, poor infrastructure, inadequate teaching methods, and social discrimination further exacerbate the problem. These factors contribute to low self-esteem, irregular attendance, and high dropout rates among tribal students. To address these issues, solutions include introducing mother tongue-based multilingual education in early grades, providing culturally relevant teaching materials, training teachers in inclusive pedagogies, strengthening Anganwadi and preschool programs in tribal areas, and involving the community in the educational process. These measures can bridge the learning gap, make education more accessible and relatable, and foster a supportive learning environment for tribal students from the outset.
