Title

Removal of sulphur black dye from synthetic textile waste water using natural algal alginate

Abstract

Industrial effluent from textile dyeing requires a simplified and effective dye removal treatment process. Among the various treatment methods available for removing color from textile effluent is coagulation. Direct discharge of dyes into aqueous streams lowers the water quality and poses health risks to both humans and aquatic life. In the present work, the characteristics of textile dye wastewater are studied. The effects of process parameters like pH, concentration of calcium, and alginate dose were also studied. The UV visible spectroscopy analysis revealed the maximum absorption peak (λmax) at 220 nm. The results indicated that the concentration of 200 mg/L alginate was found to be 43.2% (pH 4), providing maximum dye removal efficiency.
