Title

Development of A Sign Language Translator Based on Gestures to Letters and Words

Abstract

The development of a Sign Language Translator Based on Gestures to Letters or Words aims to bridge communication gaps between deaf and non-deaf individuals by translating sign language gestures into written text or spoken words. This project presents a system that uses real-time hand gesture recognition to interpret sign language and convert it into textual or verbal output. The system utilizes computer vision techniques, machine learning algorithms, and Sensor based technologies (such as cameras and accelerometers) to detect and classify hand movements, finger positions, and orientation. These gestures are then mapped to corresponding letters or words in a predefined sign language dictionary, with the output displayed as text on a screen or converted into speech using text-to-speech (TTS) technology. The integration of IoT for wireless communication allows the system to function interactively, providing immediate translation in both personal and public settings. The proposed system aims to make communication more inclusive and accessible for individuals with hearing impairments, offering real-time, on-the-go translations that enhance social interaction, education, and work opportunities. This work demonstrates the potential of combining gesture recognition and machine learning for sign language translation, enabling smoother communication for the deaf community.
