Title

Effect of Admixture on Properties of Concrete - A Review

Abstract

Admixtures play a crucial role in improving the properties of concrete, enhancing its strength, durability, and workability. Their addition helps control setting time, reduce water demand, and increase resistance to environmental factors. This study investigates the impact of different admixtures on the mechanical and physical characteristics of concrete. An experimental approach was adopted, where concrete samples were prepared using various admixture types and dosages while maintaining standard mix proportions. Performance was evaluated through slump tests, compressive strength analysis, and setting time measurements. The obtained results were compared with control samples to assess improvements and changes in concrete properties. The findings indicate that superplasticizers and water-reducing agents enhance both workability and strength, while air-entraining agents improve freeze-thaw resistance. Accelerators and retarders help modify setting times, making concrete adaptable to various construction requirements. Furthermore, admixtures contribute to cost-effectiveness by reducing cement consumption, promoting sustainable building practices. This research highlights the importance of selecting suitable admixture compositions to optimize concrete performance while ensuring structural stability. The study emphasizes the vital role of admixtures in modern construction, demonstrating their potential in producing high-performance concrete for durable and efficient applications.
