Title

Revival of artisans of Channapatna Thaluq: A case of Neelasandra Village Artisans

Abstract

Channapatna is known as toy of land and is well known for its wooden toys. The toys are famous as it is made up of wood and the colour used to coat the toy is lacquer which is safe for children. Because of which it retained its importance. Artisans have reduced in numbers as they have changed their profession, and some have migrated from their respective villages. At present maximum number of artisans are residing in Neelasandra village in Channapatna thaluk who are still pursuing their occupation. This paper discusses the artisan’s profession, process of toy making and importance of reviving these artisans in their own village leading to giving identity to the village.
