This research study focuses on the renewable energy sources and potential challenges, growing economies like India are in the process of switching from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources in order to meet their demands for increased energy production for energy security, sustainable development, reducing global warming, and energy autonomy. With forthright government policy efforts, rigorous research and development activities, and the creation of a timely platform with promotional efforts to aid the community to perceive the value of green energy and shift towards renewable energy, the nation has been working relentlessly from the past two decades to infuse, develop, and deploy various forms of renewable energy, such as solar, wind, hydro, bio, and waste to energy and focus to increase its proportion in total energy mix. Hence, the primary intent of this study is to examine the present state of renewable energy in India from a global perspective, summarizing and elucidating the potential of renewable energy as well as its production and consumption in different regions using source-wise and year-wise statistics. The study also examines how integrating renewable energy enables India meet clean energy and sustainable economic development goals, such as the Kyoto Protocol and the Sustainable Development Goals.
