Title

Quantum Computing's Impact on Cybersecurity: Assess the threats and opportunities presented by quantum computing

Abstract

Quantum computing, formerly speculative, is rapidly becoming real, transforming cybersecurity. Its computational power has transformative potential, but it threatens conventional cryptographic methods that protect digital communications, financial transactions, and crucial infrastructure. This paper explores quantum computing's dual role as a catalyst for new vulnerabilities and a foundation for next-generation security. We first examine superposition, entanglement, and quantum parallelism, which allow quantum computers to do complex tasks exponentially faster than traditional computers. Shor's and Grover's quantum algorithms challenge RSA and ECC. The paper uses quantitative models and case studies to assess the scale and urgency of quantum threats to traditional cybersecurity systems. Quantum computing introduces unique defense tactics and increases danger. PQC and QKD offer opportunities to construct effective security solutions. We show how future systems can protect confidentiality and integrity from quantum-capable attackers using lattice-based, hash-based, and multivariate cryptographic methods. The research also analyzes hybrid cryptographic systems as a temporary approach to achieve quantum security. This study discusses the ethical, regulatory, and strategic aspects needed to navigate the quantum age securely. Fair access to quantum technology, legal redefinitions of data sovereignty, and international cryptography standards are critically examined. Governments, industry, and researchers should prioritize cryptographic flexibility and rapid adoption. Quantum computing presents cybersecurity challenges, but it also offers a unique opportunity to reimagine security paradigms with greater resilience and foresight, according to this study. Active participation, multidisciplinary collaboration, and continuous research are needed to ensure the quantum revolution enhances the digital sphere
