Title

Enhanced image security with visual cryptography and threat detection for shamir's secret sharing

Abstract

In an age of digital data breaches and manipulation, protecting sensitive image data is crucial. Despite their efficiency, traditional cryptographic approaches sometimes struggle with key management, single-point failures, and verification transparency. This study presents a novel dual-layered security solution that uses Visual Cryptography (VC) and Blockchain Technology to preserve images and integrity. This project uses Visual Cryptography (VC) and Blockchain Technology to protect sensitive image data. The approach uses threshold-based secret sharing to encrypt a photo into several shares, ensuring that only a fraction can reconstruct the original image. Blockchain records and authenticates these shares, making them tamper-resistant. The technique uses Python, Tkinter for the GUI, PIL for image processing, and a custom blockchain for validation. MSE and PSNR show good visual fidelity in decrypted images. A threshold-based visual encryption approach partitions a secret picture into numerous unintelligible shares using Shamir's Secret Sharing. These shares implement access control in scattered environments by aggregating just a certain number to reproduce the original picture. Unlike old methods, no one sharing describes the image, ensuring confidentiality even if intercepted. Each share is hashed and written on a custom, lightweight blockchain to increase confidence and prevent illegal changes. The blockchain securely records and verifies share transactions. Blockchain consensus verifies each share's legitimacy, making the system resistant to counterfeiting and tampering. A bespoke blockchain framework, GUI interfaces (Tkinter), and advanced image processing (PIL) are all built in Python. Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) and Mean Squared Error (MSE) measurements verify decryption and data preservation in reconstructed images. This dual-layer image security architecture is scalable, decentralized, and robust, making it ideal for healthcare, military, and secure communication applications. By removing middlemen and integrating verification into encryption, blockchain changes trust.
