Title

The Influence of Mythological Narratives on Cognitive and Emotional Development in Children a Review

Authors

Abstract

This paper explores the influence of mythological narratives on children's cognitive, emotional, and social development. Mythological stories, with their universal themes of heroism, morality, and transformation, provide a unique framework for understanding complex psychological processes in children. By examining myths from diverse cultural traditions—such as Greek, Hindu, Norse, and African mythologies—this review highlights both the universal and culture-specific impacts of mythological content on children's moral reasoning, emotional regulation, and social empathy. The paper discusses the educational applications of mythology in the classroom, its therapeutic uses in counseling, and its role in parenting, emphasizing the value of these stories in promoting critical thinking, resilience, and ethical decision-making. Additionally, it identifies key gaps in the literature, particularly in the areas of longitudinal research, gender representation, and the digital adaptation of mythological tales. The review concludes with a call for further interdisciplinary research to better understand the long-term effects of mythological exposure and its potential in shaping the development of well-rounded, emotionally intelligent children.
