Title

The Design Feature Of Therapeutic Gardens on Enhancing Relaxation

Abstract

Hospital settings may be transformed into serene areas with healing gardens, which lower stress and improve wellbeing. They support social connection and psychological healing and can be divided into passive restorative and active enabling settings. Although extensively used in nations like the US and the UK, India is progressively incorporating them, with Delhi setting the pace. These gardens support holistic recovery and are founded on theories such as Ulrich's Stress Recovery and the Ayurvedic Panchmahabhuta Concept. There are several varieties that cater to different requirements, such as therapeutic, meditation, sensory, and enabling gardens. In and of itself, gardening lowers stress and enhances mental well-being. Water features for relaxation, multisensory aspects, and accessible walks are all features of healing gardens. The sensory experience is enhanced by natural materials like bamboo and stone, and color psychology affects mood—blue is associated with relaxation, green with peace. Restful places for prolonged usage are provided by cozy chairs and areas with shade. Their achievements are demonstrated by case studies such as Atlanta Hospital's Healing Garden and Pune's Muktangan Mitra. Healing gardens improve environmental sustainability, hasten healing, and reduce medical expenses. It is anticipated that their use would increase as Indian healthcare facilities become more aware of their advantages, promoting holistic recovery.
