Deep Space Network and Navigation : Overview
Abstract
Deep Space Networking (DSN) is a critical infrastructure for interplanetary space missions, enabling communication, navigation, and data return from spacecraft operating beyond Earth's orbit. This abstract provides an overview of DSN, focusing on the large, high-gain antennas that form its backbone. These antennas, strategically located around the globe, facilitate continuous communication with spacecraft traveling vast distances. The arraying techniques employed enhance the sensitivity and data rates achievable in these challenging communication links. This overview will highlight the key characteristics and functionalities of the antennas used in DSN, emphasizing their indispensable role in deep space exploration and scientific discovery.
