Title

REVIEW ON ENHANCING SMART GRIDS WITH A NEW IOT AND CLOUD-BASED SMART METER TO PREDICT THE ENERGY

Abstract

The increasing electricity demand, driven by household electronics and industrial expansion, challenges energy management and grid stability. To address this, we propose an IoT-based Smart Grid (SG) with a high data rate. This system enables real-time energy tracking (hourly, daily, monthly), cost estimation, and outage alerts. Smart grids require Intelligent Energy Management Systems (IEMS) to optimize Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) while minimizing costs. Our simulated smart grid results confirm improved resource management and cost efficiency. To enhance Power Quality (PQ) and integrate renewables like Solar PV and Wind Systems, we introduce an IoT-based energy surveillance system using a Wireless Sensor Network for real-time monitoring. Results show a 20.5% efficiency boost in Solar startup phases. Additionally, an IoT-enabled smart energy management system, tested in four buildings, achieved energy savings of 15%-49%, particularly in air conditioning control. Furthermore, our IoT-based Smart Meter (SM) enhances SG integration by offering real-time tracking, remote load control, and mobile app-based management. This system ensures efficient, sustainable energy consumption while addressing modern grid challenges.
