A sensory garden is a specially designed outdoor space that engages one or more of the five senses: sight, smell, sound, taste, and touch. These gardens are especially helpful for people with physical disabilities and children with sensory impairments, allowing them to connect with nature in a meaningful way. Sensory gardens also serve as therapeutic spaces, promoting mental well-being for people of all ages. Sensory gardens are specialized environments that integrate natural and architectural elements to stimulate human senses. These gardens serve therapeutic, recreational, and educational purposes, benefiting individuals with disabilities, including dementia, autism, and sensory processing disorders. By incorporating features such as textured pathways, aromatic plants, water features, and interactive elements, sensory gardens enhance cognitive function, reduce stress, and promote emotional well-being. This research paper explores the historical background, design principles, and benefits of sensory gardens while addressing the challenges faced in their implementation.
