Title

Hidden Poisons: Exploring the triggers of Dooshivisha in Ayurveda

Abstract

Agada Tantra, a specialized branch of Ayurveda, includes the concept of dooshivisha, a transformed state of visha, which remains dormant within the body. This condition arises when plant-based, animal- derived, and artificial types of poisons are not fully expelled from the body. These residual toxins persist in a latent form, referred to as dooshivisha. The presence of dooshivisha can lead to the manifestation of various symptoms, primarily resulting from dhatu dushti ie, vitiation of bodily tissues. The manifestation of these symptoms is influenced by certain aggravating factors, which are specific to each individual case. Various Ayurveda acharyas have identified these aggravating factors, which include lifestyle, diet, environmental conditions, and emotional stress. Assessing the impact of aggravating factors on dhatu helps to justify the presence of dooshivisha in the body. A critical analysis of these factors is essential for understanding how they interfere with the process of samprapti and contribute to the emergence of symptoms.
