Poisoning has been recognized as a critical condition in Ayurveda for centuries, with Agada Tantra serving as the specialized clinical branch dedicated to its management. Among various anti-poisonous formulations described in classical texts, Ajita Agada is prominently mentioned in Sushruta Samhita (Sarpadamsha Vishachikitsa Kalpa Adhyaya), Ashtanga Sangraha (Uttarasthana Vishaprathisheda Adhyaya), and Bhaishajya Ratnavali (Visha Chikitsa Adhyaya). This formulation is indicated for the treatment of both Sthavara (plant and mineral-based) and Jangama (animal-based) poisons. Comprising twelve herbal ingredients, five varieties of mineral-based salts, and honey as a binding agent, Ajita Agada exhibits a synergistic therapeutic action. It can be administered internally via Pana (oral consumption), as well as externally through Lepa (topical application). This review explores the pharmacological properties of Ajita Agada, analyzing the therapeutic potential of its individual components and its clinical applications. The study underscores the enduring relevance of traditional Ayurvedic formulations in contemporary healthcare practices.
