Title

Performance Evaluation of PLA & TPU 3D-Printed Conical Springs for Vibration Damping in Drone Landing Applications

Abstract

This study focuses on the performance evaluation of 3D printed conical springs made of PLA (Polylactic Acid) and TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) through experimental, calculations and ANSYS simulations. The samples of the springs were fabricated in circular and square cross sections to identify and compare the better performing cross section. The ANSYS simulations provide a predictive analysis of how springs behave under different loading conditions. Subsequently the springs were subjected to tensile, compression and fatigue tests. Based on the results, the spring made of PLA showed better shock absorbing capabilities which may be implemented in the landing gear of a drone for vibration dampening purposes.
