Title

Transdermal Drug Patches: A Novel Approach to Pain Management

Abstract

A common clinical symptom that has a major impact on quality of life is pain, both acute and chronic. Conventional parenteral and oral analgesic treatments can cause problems with patient compliance, fluctuating plasma concentrations, and gastrointestinal disorders. A non-invasive, sustained-release option for managing pain, transdermal drug delivery systems (TDDS) maximize therapeutic effectiveness while reducing systemic side effects. In order to address moderate to severe pain, this study compares the effectiveness, safety, and patient acceptability of transdermal patches containing several analgesic drugs, specifically diclofenac sodium, fentanyl, and lidocaine. Transdermal patches of each medication were made utilizing solvent casting techniques as part of a prospective, comparative, experimental investigation. The patches were assessed for physical characteristics (thickness, tensile strength, folding endurance), drug content homogeneity, and drug release in vitro. Over the course of seven days, a small group of individuals with moderate pain were evaluated for clinical efficacy using common pain rating measures. Additionally noted were user acceptance and adverse effects.
