Title

Living Liberation: Exploring the Psycho-Spiritual Pathways of the Brahma Kumaris

Authors

Abstract

Through the lens of Brahma Kumaris teachings, this study investigates how liberation is not deferred to the afterlife but realised as Jeevan Mukti, a present-moment spiritual attainment. While classical Indian paradigms often conceive of liberation (moksha) as a posthumous transcendence beyond worldly cycles, the Brahma Kumaris reframe it as a practical, lived reality accessible through daily psycho-spiritual discipline. Employing a constructivist grounded theory methodology, the research draws from four primary data sources: Saakar Murli discourses (1963–1968), Avyakt Murlis (1969–2017), audio-visual discourses from senior BK practitioners, and immersive participant observation at BK centres. Through iterative coding, triangulation, and thematic synthesis, the study articulates a grounded theory titled “Experiencing Liberation in Life through Brahma Kumaris’ Teachings”, which reveals liberation not as an endpoint but a continuous, embodied psycho-spiritual state. The theory is structured around eight interrelated spiritual dimensions that include soul-consciousness, divine remembrance, karmic refinement, and service-orientated detachment. These themes point to a redefinition of liberation as a dynamic state of inner mastery, vibrational presence, and collective spiritual upliftment. The study offers a culturally rooted, yet universally applicable model of spiritual transformation, contributing to the fields of Indian liberation studies, transpersonal psychology, and contemporary spiritual praxis.
