Title

A CONCEPTUAL REVIEW OF PRATISHYAYA (RHINITIS) IN AYURVEDA WITH A FOCUS ON PEDIATRIC MANIFESTATIONS

Abstract

Pratishyaya, classified under Nasagata Roga in Ayurveda, refers to nasal disorders primarily caused by the vitiation of Kapha and Vata doshas. The condition manifests through symptoms like nasal discharge (Nasasrava), congestion (Nasanaha), head heaviness (Shirogourava), and intermittent nasal blockage (Anadhvapihita Nasa). The pathology originates in the head, where aggravated doshas accumulate and descend into the nasal passages, leading to these clinical features. Managing Pratishyaya is considered challenging due to its complex doshic involvement. Ayurvedic treatment emphasizes understanding and addressing these symptoms to enhance therapeutic efficacy. Classical texts such as Sharangadhara Samhita and Bhavaprakasha Nighantu provide detailed insights into the properties and applications of various herbs used in treating such conditions. These compilations serve as valuable resources for both practitioners and enthusiasts seeking to explore the intricacies of Ayurvedic approaches to nasal disorders.
