Title
Parental Involvement, Feedback Mechanisms, and Academic Performance of Learners
Abstract
This study explored the role of parental involvement and the quality of feedback mechanisms in influencing the academic performance of Grade 6 learners in the Pili West District, Camarines Sur, during the School Year 2023–2024. Grounded in the principles of SDG 4: Quality Education, the research underscores how collaboration between parents and schools impacts student outcomes. Despite global and national efforts to promote parental engagement—such as the Philippines' RA 11908 (Parent Effectiveness Service Program)—challenges persist, including time constraints, cultural differences, and ineffective communication. The study aims to evaluate parental involvement, assess feedback quality, analyze their influence on academic performance, and propose actionable intervention strategies. This study utilized the descriptive-comparative-correlational method of research. A researcher-made questionnaire was used to gather the data from 490 respondents, and documentary analysis for the GWA of the learners. The study revealed that most parents reported moderate to high involvement in helping with homework and attending school events, but lower participation in decision-making and responsiveness to school policies. Furthermore, most parents reported moderate to high involvement in helping with homework and attending school events, but lower participation in decision-making and responsiveness to school policies. On the quality of feedback mechanisms, the study revealed that feedback from teachers to parents was regular but varied in quality; specific, actionable feedback was more effective in motivating students and fostering parental engagement. Parental satisfaction with feedback mechanisms was mixed, with some parents desiring more detailed and timely information about their child’s progress. Collaboration and shared decision-making between home and school were limited, highlighting an area for improvement. The study further revealed that the majority of Grade 6 learners achieved satisfactory to high GWAs, with notable differences linked to levels of parental involvement and quality of feedback received. The study concluded that parental involvement and effective feedback mechanisms have a strong and measurable impact on the academic performance of Grade 6 learners in Pili West District. Schools should focus on empowering parents through education, communication, and collaboration to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education for all learners.
