Title

INVESTING IN GIRLS FUTURE: AN ANALYSIS OF LEVEL OF AWARENESS OF SUKANYA SAMRIDDHI YOJANA SCHEME IN COIMBATORE CITY

Abstract

Investment in the future of girls has come to be an imperative strategy linking social justice and long-term economic well-being, a vision keenly represented in the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) program introduced under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao program. In Coimbatore City a vibrant city where contemporary economic development comes together with ancient cultural values the degree of awareness and understanding of the SSY scheme is the determining factor in the impact it will have on securing the financial future of the girl child. It used a mixed-methods research design, combining the quantitative data collected from standardized questionnaires from 300 respondents from mixed socio-economic backgrounds with qualitative information obtained through interviews with bank representatives, post office workers, and local government officials who were actually engaged in the implementation of the scheme. The results show that although a moderate level of consciousness exists among the urban masses, there are wide gaps in the detailed comprehension of the outstanding features of the scheme, including its high interest rates, tenor, eligibility requirements, and controlled withdrawal conditions. Notably, it is observed by the study that awareness has a positive correlation with higher incomes and education, while financially stable families and literate families tend to invest more in the SSY, while families with lower income and less-educated families tend to be dissuaded by complicated procedures and in-built myths.
