A variety of challenges are addressed based on the accomplishments of the 20th century's turbulence research, which is briefly reviewed in this paper. The theoretical foundation for the advancement of turbulence research is provided by the contemporary theory of the Navier-Stokes equation. The physical experiment and DNS's bottleneck and importance in investigating turbulent flows are examined. The understanding of large-scale coherent structures directly directs the active manipulation of turbulence. Scalar turbulence has received a lot of interest lately since it acts very differently from fluid turbulence in many ways. In addition to analyzing the challenges in turbulence research, several examples are provided to demonstrate how to investigate the nature of turbulence using contemporary theory, computers, and advanced technology. We have also discussed the wide spread use of the Reynolds average scheme, often known as the Reynolds Average Navier-Stokes equation, or RANS.
