Title

Energy-Efficient Routing in Wireless Sensor Networks: A Cluster-Based Approach with Mobile Sink Support

Abstract

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are widely deployed for applications requiring autonomous sensing and communication in diverse environments. However, their constrained energy resources demand innovative approaches to ensure longevity and reliability. This work proposes an Energy-Efficient Routing Algorithm with Mobile Sink Support that combines clustering and sink mobility to optimize energy utilization and data transmission efficiency. The sensor field is divided into sectors, and each sector elects a Cluster Head (CH) using a weight-based metric that considers residual energy and network topology. CHs manage intra-cluster communication and inter-cluster data aggregation, while a mobile sink collects data dynamically, reducing the burden on static CHs. A greedy algorithm is employed for inter-cluster communication, ensuring low-latency and energy-efficient routing. Simulation results validate the proposed algorithm's effectiveness, showcasing improvements in average energy consumption, latency, and packet delivery ratio compared to existing methods. This approach demonstrates significant potential for energy-constrained WSN deployments, particularly in dynamic environments requiring scalable solutions.
