Social media addiction has become a major issue especially among the university students which leads to many negative consequences and is correlated with many psychiatric and psychosocial disorders. Therefore, this paper suggests the integration of pastoral care and appropriate psycho- therapeutic counselling approaches in order address this endemic issue. It recommends the treatment through pastoral care, a ministry of compassionate presence, healing, guiding, supporting, reconciling and nurturing growth toward wholeness by motivating and encouraging them to come out of such addictions and help them live a meaningful and fuller life. Three important psycho-therapeutic counselling approaches-cognitive behavioral therapy, family therapy and person-centered therapy are proposed in this study to be used by counsellors as effective counselling approaches to help the students to learn new coping skills and methods to change the past formed patterns, to create a family atmosphere where young people can be nurtured in meaningful physical, social and spiritual activities and to build trust between the counselee and counsellor by techniques of unconditional positive regard, empathy, nonjudgmental and supportive environment for the client.
