Abstract
The Indian Knowledge System (IKS) is a vast repository of ancient wisdom that encompasses diverse disciplines such as philosophy, science, mathematics, arts, medicine, and spirituality. Rooted in centuries-old traditions, IKS holds immense potential for enriching modern education by fostering holistic learning, ethical values, and interdisciplinary understanding. Teachers serve as the primary custodians of this knowledge, playing a crucial role in its preservation, dissemination, and evolution in contemporary academic settings.
This paper critically examines the role of educators in promoting IKS by exploring innovative pedagogical strategies, effective integration models in modern curricula, and the policy frameworks that support its institutionalization. Drawing upon a comprehensive review of existing literature and contemporary educational initiatives, this study underscores the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to embed IKS into mainstream education while ensuring its authenticity, accessibility, and adaptability in the 21st century. The paper also discusses key challenges, including the lack of standardized curricula, limited research resources, and institutional resistance, while proposing solutions for overcoming these barriers.
By advocating for a synergistic blend of traditional knowledge and modern educational methodologies, this study emphasizes the need for teacher training programs, digital resources, and policy interventions to create a sustainable ecosystem for IKS integration. The findings highlight that a well-structured and inclusive approach to IKS can enrich academic learning, foster cultural identity, and contribute to global knowledge dialogues, ultimately positioning Indian education as a leader in holistic and value-based learning
