Title

Popular Discourse and Political Reading of literary Texts

Abstract

The way information is disseminated and consumed in today`s society has a significant impact on the formation of public opinion and the shaping of popular discourse which are increasingly influenced by manufactured connotations rather than face-value interpretations. This papers affirms the fact that The semiotic significance and practical import of any social reality in today's ever complex and fluid socio-political spectrum depends more on its manufactured connotation and thereafter perception of people rather than its actual worth and veracity. The process of that manufactured reality becomes negligible and futile once it hog the limelight having got sponsored by some political and corporate heavyweights and positioned and perpetuated in the collective social consciousness. The frequent onslaught of engineered perceptions benumbs the human psyche leaving no room for it to throw gauntlet to the floodlights of fraudulent ideology. The cacophony and humdrum of falsehood lends credence to the projected reality so much so that its glossy veneer makes it more real than reality itself. This sort of recurring victimization and indoctrination of reality does not let it come to the fore till some oracle or bugle happens .The present paper foregrounds this status and traces dialectics of reality through the political readings of some post colonial literary texts.
