Title

A STUDY ON EARLY CAREERS IN INDIA: FINANCIAL STRESS AMONG THE YOUNG EMPLOYEES AND IT’S IMPACT ON THEIR WORKPLACE PRODUCTIVITY

Authors

Abstract

Financial stress among young employees in India has become a critical issue in todays world, “and it highly influences workplace productivity and the overall well-being. This research paper explores the extent and impact of financial stress on working professionals, specifically aged between 22 to 30, a population that forms a major portion of India's growing workforce. By analyzing secondary data from sources such as Deloitte reports, Business Insider, LinkedIn articles, and Economic Times surveys, this study provides an in-depth view on the causes, consequences, and potential solutions to this growing problem. Key Factors Contributing to Financial Stress 1. Salary Constraints: Entry-level and mid-level salaries in many industries fail to keep up with inflation and the rising living cost, especially in metropolitan cities where most corporate jobs are concentrated (Jain, 2023). 2. Debt and EMI Burden: A significant number of young professionals carry financial liabilities in the form of education loans, personal loans, credit card debt, and home or vehicle EMIs. The growing unsecured debt portfolio among youth, as reported by NBFCs and banks, highlights this trend (Economic Times BFSI, 2023).
