Abstract

Naga City, Region V Keywords: Learning Instructions, Reading Capabilities, Teachers’ Enhancement Program This study determined the influence of teachers’ learning instructions on the reading capabilities of grade 3 learners in Bula North District, Division of Camarines Sur, School Year 2023-2024. Specifically, it investigated the following: (1) the level of learning instructions employed by the teacher; (2) the level of the reading capabilities of grade 3 learners; (3) the significant relationship between the level of learning instructions employed by teachers and the level of the reading capabilities of learners; (4) the level of learning instructions influenced the learner’s reading capabilities; and (5) the teachers’ enhancement program proposed to address the needs of the grade 3 teachers in employing learning instruction to improve the reading capabilities of Grade 3 learners. The study used a descriptive-correlational method. The respondents were the 18 Grade 3 teachers through total enumeration. Data were gathered through validated survey questionnaires. Statistical techniques included Weighted Mean, Pearson-Product-Moment of Correlation, and Coefficient of Determination (r²). The findings of the study were: (1) the level of learning instructions employed by teacher received an overall average mean of 3.52, (2) the level of the reading capabilities of grade 3 learners received an overall average weighted mean of 2.91, (3) the only relationship identified is between learning objectives and reading comprehension, with a very low positive correlation, r = 0.006, P = .0431. (4) Learning Objectives show r² values ranging from 0.00 to 27.51; Instructional Activities exhibit r² values from -4.71 to 80.34; Assessment showed the r² values ranging from 47.07 to 52.29. (5) an enhancement program was proposed to address the needs of Grade 3 teachers in employing learning instructions to improve the reading capabilities of Grade 3 learners. It was concluded that: (1) the level of learning instruction was very highly utilized by teacher in terms of learning objectives, instructional activities, and assessment; (2) the level of reading capabilities of grade 3 learners are asserted as capable in terms of strategies, speed, and comprehension; (3) there was no significant relationship between the level of learning instructions employed by teachers and the level of the reading capabilities of learner; (4) the level of learning instructions influenced learners' reading strategies and reading speed, particularly through instructional activities and assessment, which show strong influence. However, learning objectives have a weaker influence, with minimal influence on reading comprehension; (5) the proposed enhancement program can be utilized to address the needs of grade 3 teachers in employing learning instructions to improve the reading capabilities of Grade 3 learners.
