In the current era of information overload, quickly understanding and summarizing large volumes of academic and technical publications is a crucial need for students, researchers, and professionals alike. This project, titled "Publication Summary Generator", addresses this challenge by providing a web-based application capable of generating detailed summaries from user-uploaded PDF files. The primary goal of the project is to automate the process of content digestion by enabling users to extract essential information from complex documents in an efficient and user-friendly manner. Initially conceptualized as a mobile application using Android Studio and Flutter with Dart, the project faced integration issues with Firebase. Consequently, the development direction pivoted towards building a fully functional web application using Firebase Studio. Firebase was chosen for its seamless integration capabilities, particularly for real-time database handling, cloud storage, and user authentication services, which are central to this application’s architecture. The workflow of the application begins with a secure user authentication system, where new users can sign up and returning users can log in. Upon successful authentication, users are directed to a dashboard where they can upload their desired PDF files. The system then utilizes Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques and AI-based summarization algorithms to process the content and generate a comprehensive summary. The summary is provided in three downloadable formats: Word (.docx), PDF, and plain text (.txt), offering flexibility and convenience to users depending on their needs.
