This research explores the critical role of Green Finance in advancing India’s sustainable development agenda, particularly in alignment with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. Green Finance, a system of financing that supports investments with environmental benefits, is pivotal in addressing climate change, promoting renewable energy, and supporting economic growth. The study focuses on India’s green finance ecosystem, assessing the current landscape of green bonds, ESG investing, and renewable energy financing. It highlights the opportunities and challenges faced by the Indian financial sector in driving the country towards its sustainability goals, including the barriers of high borrowing costs, greenwashing risks, and the need for inclusive growth. Through case studies of initiatives such as Tata Power’s solar projects and YES Bank’s green bonds, the research demonstrates how Green Finance can foster social impact, create jobs, and contribute to poverty alleviation. The study offers policy recommendations to scale up Green Finance in India.
