Anaerobic digestion technology offers a sustainable approach to managing sewage sludge by enabling energy recovery in the form of biogas. A case study is presented for the Bhatagaon STP (6 MLD capacity) in Raipur, India. The study proposes the planning and drawing of a UASB (Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket) reactor to replace the current aerobic system. The proposed anaerobic system is planned to treat sewage sludge efficiently and recover energy through methane generation. Key parameters including digestion volume, flow rate and COD removal are assessed. The system demonstrates a potential energy generation of 26 kWh/day and provides a viable model for sustainable sewage treatment.
