With the global increase in the elderly population, healthcare systems are evolving to address age-specific challenges, particularly in terms of chronic disease management, medication adherence, and assisted living. The Internet of Things (IoT) has emerged as a transformative technology in healthcare, offering real-time monitoring, remote diagnostics, and automated alerts. This paper reviews recent developments in IoT-based healthcare systems specifically designed for elderly care, categorizing them based on functionality such as vital sign monitoring, fall detection, medication reminders, and remote assistance. We analyze key technologies, architectures, and challenges, and provide future directions for designing effective, secure, and affordable IoT solutions tailored for geriatric care.
