Title

Distance Measurement Using Ultrasonic sensor & Arduino

Abstract

This project presents the development of a low-cost, real-time distance measurement system using an HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor integrated with an Arduino Uno microcontroller and a 16x2 I2C LCD display. The system operates on the principle of echolocation, where ultrasonic pulses are transmitted, and the reflected echoes are received to calculate the distance of nearby objects. The Arduino processes the time delay between transmission and reception to determine the distance, which is then displayed in both centimeters and inches. The entire circuit is constructed using a breadboard, allowing flexibility in prototyping and testing. This non-contact measurement method is accurate, safe, and suitable for use in diverse environments, including automotive parking assistance, robotic obstacle avoidance, industrial automation, smart water level monitoring, and assistive devices for the visually impaired. Owing to its simplicity, affordability, and practical utility, this project serves as an excellent introduction to sensor-based embedded system design and offers potential for further enhancements in automation and smart technologies.
