Black Cumin (Nigella sativa Linn.) belongs to the Buttercup family Ranunculaceae. It is a native of South Europe, North Africa and South-East Asia. It is called ‘seed of blessing,’ a ‘miracle’ and ‘panacea’ on account of its wide array of benefits in human life. It has ingrained deeply in ancient treaties as a wonder drug and as a fiavouring agent worldwide. It finds place in various systems of medicine and very rich in phytoconstituents. It is being cultivated in several countries and geographical regions, apart from its birth-place. This magical spice is also integrated with beauty-care and home remedies of the poors. This communication reviewed concisely its chemical contents, therapeutic properties, nutraceuticals phytomorphology, common names, synonyms worldwide and relevant religious and traditional records. It is widely accepted as a spice and medicine all over and reiterated to be a miracle in the life of mankind through ages.
